My son contacted Austin Automotive as he was looking to have a mechanic go over his very first car he is purchasing with the money he’s been saving up over the past few years. A lot of mowed lawns in the hot Texas sun plus a lot of hours at his other job and he’s ready to pull the trigger. I’m a fair shade tree mechanic but I’m getting older than dirt and it’s hard to crawl under vehicles like I used to. Anyway, the only day he had time off was Saturday and thankfully Austin Automotive is open on Saturday so he coordinated with the owner to meet us at the shop. Unfortunately, the vehicle owner had a commitment and my son couldn’t make it down Saturday morning bc he was working, so the wife and I drove to Leander to meet the vehicle owner at Austin Automotive. Let me just say, straight out of the barrel Melissa was super helpful and told us that we could bring the car in and they would do a “pre-purchase inspection” of the vehicle while we waited. She asked that 30 minutes out we call and give her a heads up on our ETA, so we did that. When we arrived she made it clear to me that they have done many inspections like this, and that she is working for us, not the seller - good, bad, or ugly she’ll tell us the condition of the car and any issues they find. I appreciated that mindset and I could tell she meant every word. Right after the seller arrived they out the car in the garage and got under the hood. After they raised it on the lift and began the under carriage inspection, I asked if I could take a look at the underside while it was on the lift and the mechanic and I went front to back, he had a really good flashlight and was lighting up the areas difficult to see with natural light. Super cooperative he ran down the areas he had already inspected and I was able to see those areas and it was all good news. Granted this is a long review for something relatively simple, but with the quick service we received and the thoroughness of the inspection, my wife and I both felt our son was making a good decision and buying a solid vehicle. That’s some important peace of mind as parents. They even caught the passenger side window button that was acting a little funky! (Attention to detail!!) and noted the coolant was a little low, but the system was under good pressure and a leak was not likely due to that, and they topped off the coolant. I always try to get a mechanic to take a look at a vehicle I am considering and it does give some peace of mind. Of course anything can happen, but for me it’s a good investment up front I’ve also paid more money for this same inspection here in the town we live in and so I appreciated the fact that the price was very reasonable. So while I didn’t have any major mechanical work done, I can tell you that Austin Automotive runs a very clean and tight shop. I wouldn’t hesitate to bring my vehicle to them for service or mechanical work. Just one non-related topic. Nick’s Breakfast and Coffee cafe was a scant 3 minutes away and so the wife and I capped our trip to Leander and Austin Automotive’s good report on the car off with an outstanding breakfast, (cooked by the owner, Nick himself) and Brazilian wife approved coffee!! Thank you Melissa and Austin Automotive for taking such good care of us and my son’s first car!!!!
