I didn't know that a Serpentine belt would be needed to pass State Inspection. Why was I charged +$ 200 for an inspection SAD

I can understand your frustration of finding out what the drive belt on your car is part of the State Vehicle Safety Inspection. It is part because of safety. If a belt breaks you lose your power steering making it difficult to steer and control. The cost for its replacement is based on the size of belt and the time to replace. The manufacturers design dictates that. We offer the needed items to pass as a service and convenience to our customers. It was and is not a requirement that the service be performed by us.

As a woman it would be (and has been in the past) easy to take advantage of my lack of automotive knowledge. NOT with the team at Austin's Automotive Specialists in Round Rock. They are as honest as the day is long. No up sell, no exaggeration. They told me what was wrong, what needed to be fixed, how long it would take and what it would cost. Let's face it...auto repair is never convenient and seldom cheap but it's reassuring to know there won't be any surprises. Thanks guys for being the mechanics I can count on!
