Types of Oil
When your vehicle needs an oil change, you can't dump in just any kind of motor oil you select from the shelf at an auto parts store. Motor oils come in different classes, and vehicles have their own requirements for proper motor oil and performance. As experts in vehicle maintenance, Austin's Automotive Specialists in Hutto, Texas follows factory recommendations for oil changes and ensures our customers always get the right fluid for their specific vehicle. Here are the five major kinds of oil we work with!
Conventional Oil
Conventional oil is the most widely used oil for a variety of vehicles. It's used and sold in bulk at dealerships and automotive stores because it works for many vehicles. Most vehicles with low-mile, but broken-in engines will use this kind of oil.
Premium Conventional Oil
Premium conventional is considered the standard for new vehicles. They come in viscosities to cover most light-duty vehicles on the road in all of their driving purposes. But more high-tech engines may require something even more precise.
Full-Synthetic Oil
High-tech engines need high-tech motor oil, which comes in the form of full-synthetic. It's engineered and tested to prove it's longer-lasting performance overall. Full-synthetic flows better at low temperatures, maintains peak lubrication at high temperatures, and costs about three times as much as conventional. While some vehicles demand this type of oil, we wouldn't recommend using it on most vehicles because it won't add to engine performance or longevity.
Synthetic-Blend Oil
Think of this as a premium conventional mixed with a bit of synthetic oil. It's formulated to increase protection under heavy loads and excessive engine stress. That makes them a popular choice for SUVs and trucks, as they aren't much more expensive than premium conventional oils.
High-Mileage Oil
Rounding out our list is high-mileage oil, designed for vehicles that have traveled over 75,000 miles. Conditioners and other additives help protect broken-in engines.
