5 Tips to Prepare Your Vehicle for the Fall

It's officially fall here in Austin! It's time to schedule your vehicle maintenance service while temperatures aren't too cold. Maintaining your vehicle saves you money, which means your pockets won't hurt during the holidays. A well-maintained car runs more efficiently. Caring for your car in the fall prevents winter break downs. Below are five tips to consider for fall vehicle maintenance.

Check the Tires

It's the perfect time of year to check the condition of your tires. Stop by a nearby gas station and check their inflation. Take the opportunity to give them a fill or even decrease their pressure if you need to. Keep an eye on the tire tread. Tire tread tells you a lot about the health of your tires. If the tire tread is even, the wills are aligned and balanced. Uneven tire tread usually spells trouble.

Oil Change

Check the last time you brought your vehicle in for an oil change. If you had an oil change recently, try scheduling your next one in advance and setting a calendar reminder not to miss it. Engine oil keeps your engine lubricated and performing it's best. Skipping oil changes can be hard on your engine and can lead to severe damage.

Check the Battery

During your next vehicle service, have the battery checked. Have an idea of when you can expect it's need replacement. If the battery is in good condition, pop the hood while your car is cold and give it a good wipe down. Ensure it's clean and securely installed.

Check the Brakes

Your brakes serve as a safety component, making them one of the most crucial vehicle parts to maintain. Issues with the brake will cause your vehicle to stop and slow down ineffectively. Keep a note of how the brake pedal feels and listen for any strange noises. If you have any concerns, have your brakes inspected right away.

Check the Lights

Before you start your next drive, give your vehicle a walk around, and thoroughly check its lights. Check that the brake lights, headlights, taillights, and flashers are working. If you notice any bulbs are out, stop by your local auto shop for a new bulb. These lights should all be working, as they allow you to see at night and during bad weather conditions. A broken bulb can leave you with a fix-it ticket if law enforcement is nearby.
